Mental Wellness Safety

Psychological risks, like stress, anxiety, and depression are prevalent in the workplace and can stem from excessive workloads, challenging clients, and emotional triggers.

Support and understanding can make a significant difference in helping team members access appropriate care and resources.

Common Indicators

  • Reacting angrily to minor situations
  • Difficulty unwinding
  • Experiencing tension or migraine headaches
  • Muscle tightness
  • Fluctuations in weight
  • Lack of concentration
  • Fatigue
  • Heightened reliance on substances like drugs or alcohol

Proactive Measures

  • Foster a safety focused culture
  • Participate in non-work-related activities such as group lunches or social outings after work. Facilitate open communication
  • Encourage team members to openly talk about workload challenges or concerns
  • Highlight the significance of personal well-being, including maintaining a healthy diet, getting adequate sleep, engaging in regular exercise, and practicing relaxation techniques
  • Strive to cultivate a positive and enjoyable environment

Addressing a Concern

  • Find a private and comfortable setting where you can have a confidential conversation with the team member. Reach out to your Manager and/or Anchor HR for needed support.
  • Approach the team member in a non-confrontational and compassionate manner. Express your concern for their well-being and let them know that you’ve noticed changes in their behavior or performance. Emphasize that their privacy will be respected and that you will only share information with appropriate individuals on a need-to-know basis.
  • Allow the team member to share their thoughts and feelings without interrupting. Listen actively, show empathy, and avoid passing judgment.
  • Let them know that you are there to support them and that their well-being is a priority for the organization. Ask how you can be of help.
  • Provide information about available mental health resources within the organization, counselling services, or wellness programs.
  • Keep in touch with the team member and check on their well-being periodically. Let them know that you care about their progress and are available to offer support.
